TK-717 is a really nice original leather covered Jenny Lind trunk with 5 steel
bands, over 160 large brass buttons, and several smaller buttons. The date of
this Jenny Lind trunk is circa 1860's and is in excellent condition for its age.
The original leather covering has a stamped design and is in very good
condition. The handles are missing, but the buttons holding the ends are still
in place. The bottom is solid wood, very sturdy and clean.
This Jenny Lind has a shield-shaped, original brass lock plate with the key hole
cover that still works.
The measurements are 30" L x 18" D x 17" H.
The tray and lid compartments are all original. There is much detail on the
upper compartment. There is a letter holder and criss-cross ribbon that could
have been used to hold postcards or notes.
There are 3 maker labels in the trunk; 2 on the lid and one in the tray. The
labels read, "J. & W. Bailey, Saddle, Harness, Trunk & Valise Manufacturers, No.
121 Federal Street, Corner of the U.S. Hotel Building, Portland, ME. Orders
executed with neatness and despatch."
This trunk would make a great addition to any trunk or antique collection.
